Infrastructure: Harvest of completed projects in Ajasin Varsity

In what could be described as harvest of completed projects, the contractor handling the five-storey Senate Building of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Charvet Nigeria limited has handed over the project to the university management. This followed the successful completion of the magnificent building to specification. The project was awarded to the company on the 29th of December, 2011, having emerged the preferred bidder. And on the 7th of March, 2012, the contractor mobilised to site with a completion period of 84 weeks. The well thought out architectural master piece, having been certified by the consultants and clients representatives have been handed over to the university. The consultants of the project, Architect Akin Olusola said the edifice was the biggest senate building to be found in any tertiary institution in the country. He said the timely completion of the project was necessitated by the faithfulness of the university to its own side of agreement. The managing Director of the Charvet Nigeria Limited, Peter Britain also spoke in similar vein. Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Director of physical planning and Development of the institution, Architect Emmannuel Orimoloye the five story building has three lifts and seven stair halls, 43 offices and large conference halls on each floor, as well as the senate and council chambers. The consultant of the project, Akin Olusola thereafter led the Vice Chancellor and other members to inspect various component of the structure. Speaking after the inspection, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Femi Mimiko described the project as a dream come true and a vision actualised. According to him, “when we came on board in 2010, we did promise to build a 21st century university, properly called and one of the challenges we had to confront was the acute deficit of infrastructure in the university, and four years down the time today, we are all witnesses to the infrastructural development the university has witnessed and we can now confidently say Adekunle Ajasin university, Akungba-Akoko is on the march to greatness indeed and we can compare with many other universities in terms of infrastructure.” Prof. Mimiko described the edifice as a compelling architectural fabric which stands out the varsity and makes it proud. He expressed optimism that the building when commissioned will put and to the problem of office accommodation in the institution. The vice chancellor commended the consultants and contractor of the project for the excellent work done in handling the project to specification. He equally thanked the past council of the varsity led by Dan Nwayanun under which the project was awarded, with a special praise to the Governor of Ondo state and visitor to the university, Dr Olusegun Mimiko for the tremendous support to the institution in every area for making fund available for the projects.
High point of the event was the handing over of the key and album of the building to the varsity management. The structure which covers 10, 000 square metres will now be the central administrative complex of the institution. And it is expected to be inaugurated by the state governor and visitor to the university, Dr Olusehun Mimiko in no distant time. It would be recalled that the 500-capacity Nelson Mandela lecture theatre and the Internet Resource Centre were also officially handed over to the university.
