Arsenal Football Club has expressed interest in bringing United’s youngster Tom Cleverly to the Emirates. Information Nigeria understands.
The deal however would take place if Vermaelen decides to quit the NorthLondon club for Manchester United.
Arsene Wenger is targeting an exchange deal that could see Cleverly or Smailling join the club.
Vermaelen, who is 28, has one-year left on his contract, and has falling down the pecking order despite being the Captain.
Wenger has been a strong admirer of Cleverly, and believes under the right tutelage, the youngster could become a WorldClass prospect.
