Ashley Cole out but Luke Shaw in England World Cup squad

Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has been left out of England's World Cup squad and will not be on their standby list. Southampton youngster Luke Shaw, 18, will be included in the squad. He has one cap, while Cole has won 107. England manager Roy Hodgson will name his 23-man squad, with seven standby players, on Monday. Cole, 33, who played at the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cups, has been out of favour at Chelsea this season and is out of contract this summer. He made only one substitute appearance in three months from late January, although he did return to the Chelsea side to play Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. It had been thought he could leave Chelsea this summer, but boss Jose Mourinho hinted this week that the former Arsenal player could yet stay at Stamford Bridge. More to follow.
