Managing Director of Innoson Group of Companies, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, has called on Nigerians to patronize locally manufactured goods.
Chukwuma made the call in Nsukka when he visited the Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) permanent site, he said for any country to become exporting nation it must start patronizing locally made goods which would boost local production.
According to him, “Any country that imports every product from abroad would continue to depend on other countries for its economic survival.
“The more a country imports everything the more the economy of such country starts collapsing.
“Patronising of locally made goods will not only improve the economy of the country but also help to reduce unemployment as many hand s will be needed by companies and manufacturers ,” he said
Chukwuma expressed satisfaction on the quality of things produced through research work in CBSS and pledged to collaborate with the centre as his companies made use of research findings in their production.
He continued, “I don’t even know there is a place like this owned by federal government in Enugu state, my companies partner with the centre in way that will benefit both parties.
“Many countries developed countries made technological breakthrough because of quality attention to research, because its research that drives technology.
“This centre if given serious attention will help to bring solutions to our technological problems in this country,” he said.
On the present economic challenges, he said that it was normal as every developed country in the world once went through the same hardship before achieving strong economy.
“All hands must be on deck to move this country to the next level as only government cannot do it alone.
Earlier, while welcoming the industrialist and his entourage, the Director of CBSS Prof. Fidelix Opara said the centre was happy to have Mr. Chukwuma at the centre adding that his vehicle assembling plant had made many people in the country to believe that with foresight exotic cars could be produced in the country
