Lassa Fever: Ondo Govt steps up surveillance

The commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju disclosed this at a strategic meeting held in Akure, the state capital.

Dr Adeyanju said though there is no any case of the disease in the state, there is the need to sensitize residents on its preventive measures.

He said the reported death of a medical doctor in Anambra state who was diagnosed of lassa fever as well as the reported case of the disease in Delta state has made it imperative for the state government to put all machineries in motion to prevent its incursion into the state having shared borders with some affected states.

He said government would stepped up sensitization in boarder towns with Edo state so that residents would not be caught unawares.

He reminded people of the state to avoid crowded gatherings, eating contaminated foods and desist from eating rats among other preventive measures
