Ondo PDP Primary: Jegede's opponent, Lawal promises to work with winner

Mr Saka Lawal, who contested for the Ondo State PDP governorship ticket with the eventual winner, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), promised that he remains in PDP and will work to ensure that the PDP candidate wins the November 26 gubernatorial election.

He pledged to join hands with the flagbearer and work for the progress of the party, particularly by bringing together all aggrieved members of the party.

Lawal commended the peaceful conduct of the Primary and that of the delegates throughout the election.

He promised to work assiduously to ensure that Jegede wins the November 26, 2016 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, as he said the challenges before all PDP members is how to win the gubernatorial election.

“I will not leave PDP. I will join hand with other members to win the gubernatorial election. We have a lot to do to win. That is paramount to me.”

He promised to work with members of his team to write the blueprint on how PDP will win the election saying that he deliberately decided to stay with the mainstream PDP where he purchased his nomination form as an Aspirant as firm in democracy and PDP.

In the same vein, delegates at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2016 gubernatorial primary election yesterday commended the peaceful and transparent party’s Congress which brought in Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, as the governorship candidate of the party for the November 26 gubernatorial poll.

The Congress was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Security agents, local and national observers, as well as the Press.

Accreditation of delegates started at exactly 8.00am and ended at 9:15am, while the voting proper kicked off at exactly 9: 53am.

In separate interviews, some of the delegates described the outcome of the party’s Congress as the true wish of the participating delegates and a clear manifestation of internal democracy.

Some of the delegates including Senator. Yele Omogunwa, Kolade Victor Akinjo, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, Alhaji Folagbade Gbemibade and Dr. Supo Ijabadeniyi, described the Congress as orderly, peaceful, free and fair.

Other delegates such as Hon. Joseph Akinlaja and Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo commended the Congress Committee headed by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, for conducting orderly and peaceful primary election.

The delegates explained that they have clearly exercised their right to elect a candidate of their choice in a peaceful, free and fair and transparent party Congress.

Omogunwa said now that the party’s governorship candidate has emerged, all the members of the party would key in and work for the party’s success at the poll.

On his part, Hon. Akinjo stressed that the delegates have set an agenda for what the state should look like in another four years by voting for a credible and competent person as the flagbearer of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

“The PDP in Ondo State is very dignified and essentially very strong. This is a state that cannot be cowed, this a state that cannot be caged and this is a state that cannot be dictated to by external forces. No external dictator will change the wishes of our people”, he said.

Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele who commended the leadership style of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led PDP in the state, further emphasised that all the delegates voted according to their wishes without imposition.

“We voted the candidate that can deliver and we believe that PDP will overwhelmingly win the governorship election”, she added.

Also speaking, Hon. Gbemibade disclosed that the PDP is fully ready for the governorship election.

He also expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious at the poll going by the numerous achievements of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led government in the state.

“This is the authentic PDP, the PDP led by Markafi at the National level is the authentic PDP and nothing more. In fact, there is no crisis in Ondo State PDP, the party is intact”, Gbemibade added.

Another delegate, Dr. Ijabadeniyi described the outcome of the primary election as a clear manifestation of the wishes of the delegates, noting that it is very clear and sure that the candidate would emerge victorious come November 26 governorship election.

On their part, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja and Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo commended the second aspirant in the primary election, Hon. Saka Lawal for his spirit of sportsmanship and called on the winner of the party’s governorship ticket, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and all other party leaders to work together to further take the party to the next level.

One of the officials at the Congress, Hon. Ayo Abiola, described the exercise as successful, clear, open and well conducted.
