Governor Mimiko
The Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has directed the inclusion of Primary School teachers in the category of state workers who enjoy car and housing loans even as the State's commissioner for education, Arch Jide Adejuyigbe has received the order of the Governor to the effect.
Governor Mimiko while addressing delegate to the 5th Quadrenial State Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union Of Teachers (NUT), Ondo State wing, held at the Teachers' House in Akure yesterday, declared that the scheme will be tagged: Primary School Loans Scheme.
According to the Governor, the decision to begin the Scheme will be presented to the State executive council for its seal.
The Governor opined that the new Scheme will provide equal opportunity for primary school teachers like their counterparts in the service of the State government.
Also at the event, Governor Mimiko volunteered that running grants for schools will be given to the schools simultaneously at the time of payment of teachers' salaries, even as he promised that running of Free Shuttle Bus Scheme will continue to take the first charge under his administration.
While describing teachers as veritable custodians of the future of the country, Dr Mimiko restated the determination of his government to continue to provide conducive teaching and learning environment for teachers and pupils.
Governor Mimiko, who lauded teachers in the State for sustaining the quality of education, inspite of the salary challenge facing the State, also described teachers as special people that should not be deprived of life enhancing benefits.
Mimiko said his administration has provided an enabling environment and incentives to teachers to efficiently carry out their work in the last seven and a half years, assuring that their welfare remains one of his government's priorities.
He also congratulated the out-going chairman of the NUT in the State Comrade Ojo Fanimokun on his achievements so far and urged the teachers to continue to discharge their duties efficiently.
Earlier in their speeches, the out-going NUT chairman and the State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrades Ojo Fanimokun and Bosede Daramola respectively appreciated the Mimiko-led government for priotizing teachers' welfare, including promotion and other welfare packages.
They also urged the governor to address the issue of shortage of teachers in schools as soon as the economy of the State improves.
