Ondo APC Primary: Lawmaker cries out over plans to kill him

A member representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West federal constituency at the House of Representatives Hon. Stephen Friday  Olemija, has cried out to Nigerians and the whole world over plans by some group of people in his constituency to take his life, family as well as his supporters.

THE Lawmaker said the assassination attempt was a fallout of the last governorship primary election  of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Ondo state.

Some people in the town had alleged that Mr Olemija played a major role in the defeat of his kinsman, Olusegun Abraham in the last Saturday's APC governorship primary held in Akure, the state capital. Mr Abraham had polled 635 votes to lose the party's governorship ticket to Chief Rotimi Akeredolu who secured 669 votes.

Mr Olemija alleged that as a result, some chiefs in the town, organised youths and women loyal to Mr Abraham chanted various derogatory songs and words against him round some quarters town (Ikare~Akoko ) and proceeded to his constituency office located at Ilepa area in the town to loot, vandalise and molest staff.

He added that the protesters also vandalised the personal office of his Senior Legislative Assistant in the town and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

Olemija narrated that after the primary election, he has been receiving strange calls on his phone and that of his family members and supporters that they ( Olusegun Abraham ) are battle ready to take life out of him and that of his followers, while series of personal attack and molestation have been made on his supporters by the alleged group.

He noted that the constitution of the country provided every citizen the right. to support any person of their choice in an election, without being harassed or molested, wondering why the groups are now calling for his head and that of his supporters for action taken in the just concluded governorship primary election of the party APC.

Olemija revealed that  security agents have been alerted on the development. He called on relevant security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those behind it to serve as deterrent to others for peace to continue to reign in the area

He also urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress  ( APC ) to take necessary action on the matter for the  progress and development of the party.

The MHR informed that within his shortest time at the National Assembly, he has been able to empowere many youths and women in the town, assist a lot for one projects or another which he said was a deviation of what was obtainable in the past.

"with the recent action of supporting an aspirant from another area, now the group note will not continue to allow his profile rise and wanted to mar his political image with in~imaginable political calculations", he said.

Olemija however promised not to be distracted by their actions but will continue to thread the path of progress and development of the area, Ondo state and Nigeria in general.
