Ondo govt steps up sensitisation on the control of Lassa Fever

The Ondo state government has stepped up sensitization of its residents especially those in Owo and Ose local governments areas of the state against Lassa Fever.

Speaking at a sensitization meeting on the management and control of Lassa Fever held at Oke Mapo hall in Owo, the headquarters of Owo local government, the state commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju said government was working hard to push back the disease.

The meeting was against the backdrop of a suspected case of the disease reported in Owo/Ose axis of the state last Wednesday while two other persons are now being observed.
Dr Adeyanju explained that the sensitization became imperative following the closeness of the two local governments to to neighbouring states.

While allaying the fear of residents, the commissioner emphasized the need for them to be vigilant and to avoid acts that could aid the disease.

He revealed that government has strengthened its emergency operations and also put necessary facilities in place for immediate arrest and quick containment of Lassa Fever.

The health commissioner however reminded residents on the need to keep their food stuffs and other consumables safe from rats adding that they should embrace hygienic living.

The commissioner had interfaced with traders in Emure, a community under the local government where he warned them against spreading consumable items on the floor with proper close watch.

The Vice Chairman of the council, Olusola Owadasa, the Oliyere of Iyere, Oba Omotunde Adako and others promised to go back to their domain and hammer the message of hygienic living to them.
