Ondo NUJ commends Police for recovering member's stolen car

The Ondo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has commended men of the Nigeria police force for timely arrest of suspected armed robbers who attacked the union's Financial Secretary, Adeola Adekunle and recovered her stolen car.

The Union also appreciates all journalists including the Women's wing NAWOJ and media Houses in the state that have been part of agitations for the arrest the suspects and recovery of the stolen car.

In a statement signed by the state General Secretary of NUJ, Leke Adegbite, the Union describes as unprecedented the zeal at which policemen especially Anti-cultism Squad of the force trailed the suspects since on Sunday until two of the suspects were apprehended at an hide-out near Shasha market in Akure.

NUJ specifically expresses appreciation to the state commissioner of police, Mrs Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison and the state Police spokesman, Mr Femi Joseph who had been assuring the union and Adeola that the car and other personal belongings will be recovered in record time.

The statement indicates that the silence of the union since the incident occurred was as a result of assurance by the CP and to avoid a situation where investigation by the police could be jeopardized.

The Union which says the suspects were reportedly arrested two days ago but only confessed to the crime yesterday, advises the public to continue to have confident in the ability of the Nigeria police to raid the nation of criminal elements.

NUJ therefore assures the force of continuous partnership of journalists in tackling criminality in the sunshine state and beyond particularly in its quest to apprehend other members of the armed gang.

Adeola Adekunle who is also a staff of Adaba FM was attacked by some robbers armed with guns at the gate of her residence at Araromi/High school area of Akure and dispossessed her of car, cash, phones and other valuable materials at the weekend.

Leke Adegbite
