LG autonomy: NULGE holds rallies in Ondo to drum support

Members and leaders of the National Union of Local Government Employees NULGE today held peaceful rallies across headquarters of the 18 Council areas in Ondo State to drum support of key stakeholders for the approval and entrenchment of Local government autonomy into the Nation's 1999 Constitution.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the rallies, reports that NULGE members took their campaign for autonomy to state lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious and political leaders as well as market squares.

In Akure South, the Local Government workers marched round the town chanting solidarity songs and climaxed the procession at the deji of akure's palace where the monarch, Oba aladetoyinbo Ogunlade who spoke through his chief of staff, Prince Owolabi Adetoyinbo said all traditional rulers in the country were solidly in support of the autonomy agitation.

In akure North, the local government workers led by the state publicity secretary office, comrade Victor Omodara had special prayers before visiting the palaces of the Okiti of Iju, Ogbolu of Itaogbolu, Oloba of Obaile.

In a remark, The state president of NULGE comrade Bunmi Eniayewu who joined the rally in Akure south, said grand demonstration for Local Government autonomy would hold next week Tuesday in Akure metropolis

Reports indicate that the rally for local government autonomy also took place in Owo, Okitipupa, Ikare-Akoko, Irele, Igbaraoke, Ifon, Okeagbe Akoko, Igbokoda, Oka Akoko, Igbekebo, Isua-Akoko, Idanre, Ondo town, Bolorunduro, Ileoluji and Ore.
