Ondo govt begins rehabilitation of moribund water facilities in rural areas.

The Ondo state government yesterday commenced the rehabilitation of moribund water facilities in the state to address water problem facing people in the rural areas.

Tagged 'Kamomi, Aketi Water Scheme, the exercise is being carried out by the state Rural Water Sanitation and Supply Agency, RUWASSA.

One of the problems facing rural dwellers is lack of access to portable water.

It's in view of this that the governor of the state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu directed the agency to take inventory, evaluate and carry out he NEEDS assessment of existing water structures with a view to instantly solving the identified problems.

The agency led by Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju moved its team of engineers and equipment to Ijare in Ifedore local government area of the state to prosecute the project.

They repaired the borehole located at St David's Primary school which has stopped working for over three years.

After intensive work on the facility, they brought the borehole back to life and this elicited a great deal of joy from pupils of the school and residents.

They also moved to Araromi for similar exercise.

Speaking on the exercise, Chairman of the agency, Yetunde Adeyanju said the gesture was born out of governor Akeredolu's desire to solve the challenge of water confronting rural dwellers.

According to her, over 3000 communities will benefit from the water scheme as efforts are on to advance to other council areas.
