Ondo govt seeks cooperation of residents on flood prevention

The Ondo state Commissioner  for Environment  Funso Esan has called for the cooperation  of all and sundry in the state in an effort to make the state a cynosure of all eyes in terms of cleanliness.

Commissioner  Esan made the call on an OSRC programme " am  today" where he explained in details the effort  of the Arakunrin Akeredolu led administration to cirtail5 the damages caused by flooding in the state.

Speaking on the on- going mechanized channelization work to control free flow of water at Alamoye/ Ologede and  Ala down Ayedun in Akure, the commissioner  said the channelization work is expected to cover all other flood proned areas which  have been identified .

While appreciating the effort of the private company ZL Global Alliance tasked with state waste management, commissioner  Esan alayed the fear of people living in the concerned  areas that they can now sleep with their two eyes closed adding that proper channelization had been done and that the work continues until the desired result is achieved.

The commissioner who added that desilting of drainages have commenced along Oba Adesida via old garage to Ondo road as part of effort of the state government  to put flooding to a stop reminded the public of their responsibility to keep drainages around them clean at all times saying government cannot alone do the work.

According  to him, the waste management authority  in collaboration with constituted task force  would henceforth  be out to enforce strict compliance of drainage clearing adding that culprit would be dealt with according to the stipulated environmental law.

He however appealed to the people of the state to desist from dumping waste in drainages whenever it rains and imbibe the spirit of proper waste keeping in an effort to creating an enable environment for all.

While appreciating  the intervention of the state government to prevent flood future occurrence in the state, Esan said the channelization work would be extended to other  critical areas identified  to be prone to flood issues in the state like, Ondo, Owo, Ikare, Okitipupa and Igbokada.
