Petrol subsidy removal: Return of school free shuttle operations excite Ondo students

Students in public and private schools in Ondo State are excited with the return of free shuttle operations by the state government to ease transportation problems.

The move is part of the measures rolled out by the state government to cushion the harsh effects of petrol subsidy removal on residents, especially parents who pay heavily to transport their children to schools.

Basking in the euphoria of the moment, the students joyfully received the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Tobi Ogunleye who were on inspection of the operation of the free school shuttle in Akure, the state capital.

Addressing students of Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Oyemekun Grammar School and St Louis Girls Grammar School all in Akure, the commissioner for information, Mrs Ademola-Olateju, said the free shuttle scheme is not limited to buses.

She added that the government has also made provision for boats that will convey students in the riverine areas of the State to and from school free of charge.

The commissioner explained that the government's intention is to reduce the hardship parents are facing in order to keep them in school while schooling is made relatively easy.

She therefore urged the students to be good ambassadors and comport themselves as responsible children.

The students expressed gratitude to the state government, particularly to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the development, adding that the return of the buses is making things a lot easier for them.

According to them, they get to school much earlier and are able to concentrate on their studies since the burden of transportation has been substantially removed from them and their parents.
