150 drown, killed in fresh Boko Haram attack

No fewer than 150 persons are reported drowned or killed in a fresh Boko Haram attack in Yobe State.

The attack, according to AFP, was carried out in a remote village in Yobe.

The name of the village was given as Kukuwa-Gari. Gunmen reportedly invaded the village on Thursday.

Those who managed to escape were said to have drowned while fleeing.

A source in the village, who spoke with AFP, said the attackers destroyed telecommunications equipment, including masts, in the area, leading to the villagers being cut off.

This explained the reason for the news getting late to the outside world.

“Boko Haram gunmen attacked our village on Thursday which led to the deaths of around 150 people.

Most of the victims died in the river while trying to escape,” Kukuwa-Gari resident, Bukar Tijjani, told AFP.

Kukuwa-Gari is said to be about 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the Yobe State capita Damaturu.
