Federation of Muslim Women Association, Ondo state chapter has urged governorship aspirants to pick Muslim women as running mates for the November 26 governorship poll.
This is contained in a communique issued at the issued at the end of the end of the executive meeting of the federation held at the Akure central mosque last Thursday.
While acknowledging examining the state of women in the political equation of the state, the group commended the incumbent governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko for appointing more women into his cabinet.
"The experience of Muslim women in the outgoing administration has revealed that a balance ticket for the position of governor afforded Muslim women a better access to government in Ondo state, and also enhanced peaceful come-existence among different religions in the state", the communique reads in part.
FOMWAN therefore challenged political parties and aspirants participating in the election to consider Muslim women for the deputy governorship position so that their welfare and interest can be more protected.
The group therefore expressed readiness to mobilise muslim women in aupport of any which ever political party that accords muslims a place of pride.
"The meeting firmly resolve to embark on an aggressive sensitization of muslims across the state with a view to mobilizing them to grant massive support to whichever party that offers its platform for a muslim to play prominent role on its gubernatorial ticket for subsequent elections in Ondo state", the group said.
The meeting was attended by the federation's state executive and all three Amirahs from the 18 local government areas of the state.
