The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Prof. Adeola Fuwape has challenged fresh students of the institution to key into the vision and mission of the university to enable it maintains its record of excellence.
Prof. Fuwape gave the charge at the 35th matriculation ceremony for the 3, 505 students admitted for the 2017/2018 academic session.
The event was held at the University auditorium.
He told the new students that FUTA has recorded several milestones of excellence which has further make it a university of choice for admission seekers.
According to him, “The University has MoU with over 30 renowned universities in the world including Oxford, Cambridge and many others. FUTA graduates are rated highly by employers in terms of competence, communication skills, ICT sufficiency and general human relation.
“At FUTA we are proud of our unique standing of enviable reputation in teaching and reserchbas a specialized university”.
He therefore urged them to see the consolidation of this record as a task that demands collective responsibility.
“You should contribute your own quota in making FUTA maintain its enviable status as the best university in Nigeria. So you have to key into the vision and mission of the university”, he said.
While congratulating them for scaling the admission hurdles, the don advised the freshers to face their studies and obey all rules and regulations.
He said: “As a member of the university community, its parts of your obligations to maintain law and order, pay appropriate fees and levies, protect the university property, respect the rights of your fellow students and report any criminal or suspicious activities to the university authorities”.
Prof. Fuwape reminded them of the university’s zero tolernace for immorality and indiscipline.
“Eschew all forms of vices such as exam malpractices, academic fraud, cultism, sexuak harassment, indecent dressing, hooliganism, indiscipline, rudeness and other activities capable of distruoting the progress of your academics and the piece on campus”, he said.
The VC later administered oath on them.
