Richard Adura-Ilesanmi hails from Idoani in Ose local government area of Ondo state. He attended social Nursery/Primary School, Idoani and had his secondary education at the prestigious Saint John/Mary’s Unity Secondary School, Owo, Ondo state, Nigeria.
In his quest for a University education, Richard applied to study Law and Mass Communication at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in 2007. Unfortunately, his impressive 63% in the schools internal examination (POST UTME) could not guarantee him a place in the university.
Unruffled Richard, therefore, opted for the university’s pre-degree programme to study English Arts in 2008. And after that one year of burning the midnight oil, he was adjudged not qualified for admission notwithstanding his 65.9% score.
But while in the institution, the visionary Richard had laid the foundation for his journalistic vision by joining the only student newspaper in the citadel of learning, ECHO Newspaper, an inter campus newspaper published in the school.
After about three years of unsuccessfully groping for admission, Richard considered polytechnic education and he was admitted to the prestigious Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. While in the school, he joined the Press Council, publisher of CAMPUSBEAT, the only news outfit in the school. He was a foremost and renowned campus journalist.
Owing to his hard work, erudition and display of journalistic prowess, he bagged for himself two appointments in 2010: the Editor-in-Chief for the Press Council and the Editor of RUGIPO Digest Magazine, the publication of the department of Mass Communication, all in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. His hard work and steady commitment to excellence culminated in Richard graduating with a DISINCTION in Mass Communication in his Ordinary National Diploma, OND from the institution in 2012.
After his ordinary National Diploma, Richard proceeded for his one-year mandatory Industrial Training at the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, OSRC, Akure in 2012, where he was entrusted with a Freelance role in the station because of his superlative performance after completing the programme in 2013.
The once rejected stone later gained a direct entry admission to the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, Nigeria in 2013. Upon his second coming to the ivory tower, the prolific future author had a reunion with his first love, ECHO Newspaper whose marriage with was assundered by admission misfortunes. He rose through the ranks to the position of Associate Editor between 2012 and 2013, and then, the Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper from 2014 to 2015.
As if that was not enough, Richard also served as the president of the University’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists, NUCJ; the umbrella body of all practicing journalists in the institution in 2015. Richard graduated from the university in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication.
The editorial consultant to many students media organizations was in 2014, conferred with a prestigious Media Ambassador of the Year award by his Alma Mata, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the department of Mass Communication.
The uniqueness of the event was that the promising Richard was honoured alongside some eminent Nigerians of compelling personalities such as the veteran broadcaster, Chief Sanya Oyinsan, Nollywood star, Jibola Dabo, Chairman, Owena Press, Akure, and Chief Bode Betiku among others. Also in 2015, he received Oasis media “Most Supporting Man of the Year”.
In the course of his journalism sojourn in OSRC, Richard covered a number of high profile events and personalities including the then president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan at Ado-Ekiti and Akure in October 2013 and February 2015 respectively.
Similarly, he interviewed other eminent Nigerians such as the Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, renowned playwright and poet, Prof. Niyi Osundare, the then governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and other distinguished Nigerians with compelling backgrounds that are too numerous to mention.
Richard is a young sharp journalist whose passion for the journalism profession has made him resolute and strong-willed even in the face of the obvious and palpable ordeals in the profession. His media experience, especially as editor, sub-editor, correspondents of a number of media outfits, including Echo Newspapers, The Nation Newspaper and the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, made him relevant in the world of journalism.
As a campus journalist with vast experience spanning over a decade, he has been outstanding, winning several notable awards and attended master-class seminars, such as the coveted biannual Cocacola/NBC sponsored Workshop for Campus Journalists of The Nation Newspaper across Nigeria three times in Lagos.
Richard has yet-be-published books title:" My Apology to Hausa/Fulanis", a book seeking to set the record straight about the two tribes and to correct people's misconception about them and "The Secrets of Effective Campus Journalism", a practical book designed to expose Would-be Campus Journalists and the existing practitioners to the rudiments of the trade.
