A suspected male suicide bomber boarded a tricycle to an unknown destination in Maiduguri metropolis yesterday blew up, killing himself and four others, security and witnesses said.
A vigilant youth who took part in the evacuation of the victims told Daily Trust on Saturday at the scene that a suspected male suicide bomber on transit in a tricycle he boarded set off an IED strapped to his body.
He said though it was only him and the driver in the tricycle but on reaching Gamboru market junction, they erupted into argument on which route the driver would take, and before vigilant youths come and intervene, he blew himself.
“We thank God that no single vigilant youth neither got killed nor did sustain injury, but unfortunately five persons including the suicide bomber died while five others critically injured,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Police spokesman in Borno State Command, ASP Victor Isuka, told Daily Trust on phone that the blast which killed three occurred on Friday around 7:20am at 500-miter distance from Gamboru market in Maiduguri the Borno State capital.
