Ondo is not among states indebted to WAEC--Education Commissioner

All students who sat for this year's May/June West African Senior Examination in Ondo state will have their results released as the state government has paid about two hundred million naira for its over eighteen thousand students who wrote the examination.

The state commissioner for Education, Jide Adejuyigbe said disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Akure, the state capital to allay the fear of students on whether ondo state is one of the indebted states.

Adejuyigbe noted that it was the policy thrust of the Mimiko-led government to avail many indigent students the opportunity to sit for the examination and relieve parents of this financial burden.

In fulfilling the obligation therefore, the commissioner explained that the state government has spent the sum of 198, 587, 170 naira registration fees for its 18, 124 students who sat for external examinations this year.

Adejuyigbe emphasized that government will not renege on this obligation for whatever reason stressing that no student will be left out in both internal and external examinations due to inability to pay.

The commissioner said that the state government has also expended over 181 million naira to conduct internal examinations ranging from the Junior School Certificate and common entrance into unity and public secondary schools in the state.

Adejuyigbe re-iterated the resolve of the state government to celebrate outstanding students in the state.

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC had threatened not to release results of candidates in 19 states whose governments are indebted to the council.
