The Ondo state government has insisted that the ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists popularly called Okada on major roads in Akure the state capital is still in force.

The Okada operators yesterday in defiance to government order went about their businesses on the restricted areas.

To demonstrate its resolve to enforce the order, police have again swung into action to arrest defaulters.

No fewer than 50 motorcycles and their owners have been arrested this morning around Alagbaka GRA in the state capital.

The state government suspended the operation of the motorcyclists about three weeks ago following a violent protest by the Olokadas.

The government had directed the commercial motorcyclists to register their Okadas appropriately with a sum of five thousand naira and pay an annual in come tax of two thousand naira each.
