The Ondo state government says its ongoing workers verification exercise was not to downsize its workforce but to ensure that the scarce resources of the state is not getting to wrong hands.

The commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Akin Adaramola said this in a chat with newsmen in Akure to update the public on the exercise which kicked off last Thursday.

Adaramola who is the chairman of the verification committee said the phased process for all categories of workers is expected to climax next week while a mop up exercise will be held for those who missed it based on genuine reason. 

He explained that the management tools used for the verification are the nominal roll, pay roll and benchmark information of all concern Ministries, department and agencies. 

Adaramola also revealed that all local government workers will converged the headquarters of their council areas ‎and health workers at designated facilities. 

He also debunked insinuations or reports that the exercise was meant to downsize the state work force, stressing that it was an update of the state data base, 2 years after it was conducted.
