The new Registrar of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Mr. Michael Sunday Ayeerun, has called on non-academic staff of the institution to strive for excellence and efficient service delivery, even as he promised to defend their interests and ensure fairness and justice.
Mr. Ayeerun became the substantive Registrar in June after occupying the position in an acting capacity since December 2015.
According to him, he aims to build an efficient registry that will be technology-driven, and one peopled by intelligent and well-trained staff who can confidently compete with their peers globally.
"We will work towards having an e-registry where things are done online. We will work towards training and re-training registry staff so they could deliver efficiently and competently.
“I therefore urge you to work towards self-development and training even as we, as an institution, would pull all the stops to encourage both internal and external training for you", he said.
The Registrar cautioned against indiscipline and unruly acts, warning that there would be no hesitation in wielding the big stick when necessary.
He called on them to always bear in mind that they are parenting the students in a way and that whatever attitude they put up with the students would determine the impression of the school they would leave with.
He said, "In most advanced nations, government does not fund universities. Most institutions get the bulk of their funding from their alumni. Many ex-students donate and build infrastructures in their alma mater. The same could happen here, but that depends on your attitude to the students. If you are unnecessarily harsh on them or you shout and humiliate them, you can be sure they would leave with a negative impression of the university and thus they might not be inclined to see the institution as theirs to nurture."
Ayeerun thanked the staff for what he called the enthusiastic way they received his appointment, which he noted came as a fitting icing on the cake of his 24 years of working in the university.
Mr. Ayeerun stated these during his meetings with administrators and other registry staff held in the University.
