The Alumni Association of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has expressed deep concern over the strike embarked upon by the institution's chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for over two months grounding academic activities.
The Association, having made various efforts to mediate between the Ondo State Government and ASUU with a view to ending the on-going industrial action following the inability of the State Government to pay salaries spanning five months, however urged the two parties to find a way around the situation.
According to the association, "We condemn the on-going impasse in its entirety because of its negative effects not only on every facet of the University, but also on the image of our dear alma mater and our dear Sunshine State.
"It is on record that the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led government had, prior to this precarious situation, ensured that AAUA experienced an unbroken academic calendar. We are also not unaware that the feat of unbroken calendar of the University is also not unconnected with unwavering cooperation received from both the academic and the non-academic staff of the institution.
"We, therefore, make a passionate plea to the government to demonstrate its usual political will by bending over backwards to resolve the issues on the ground in order to bring the students back to campus in no distant time. Destinies are waiting!
While empathizing with ASUU on the hardship that its members are going through, we appeal to it to show more understanding and give room for negotiation to end the industrial action".
