All is now set for the Ondo State government to key into the federal government’s home grown school feeding programme for pupils across the 18 council areas of the state.
At a workshop organised by the Technical team of the project held at the Dome in Akure, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said the programme will bring about massive job opportunities for the people.
Farmers, food vendors and school based management committee were among the stakeholders at the event.
The national home grown school feeding program is part of the APC led government promise to Nigerians to reduce the burden of parents on their children especially at the grassroots level.
The Technical Assistant of the programme in the Office of the Vice President, Mrs Titilayo Adeyemi said the essence of the workshop is not only to see that the program is successful but also sustainable .
Adeyemi who noted that only nine states have keyed into the program announced that it will be one hundred percent sponsored by the Federal Government from primary one to three before it is extended to other classes.
The Focal Officer of the program in Ondo State, Mrs Morinsola Olanipekun commended Governor Akeredolu for keying into the initiative adding that the project will boost local agricultural production, reduce poverty and improve enrollment of pupils into primary schools in the state.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on his part assured of his readiness to partner the Federal Government on the programme and other initiatives for growth and development of the state.
Governor Akeredolu was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, stressed that the program will generate employment opportunities and invited all stakeholders come on board.
Speaking on behalf of the 18 council areas chairmen, the Chairman Odigbo Council Area, Margaret Alaka expressed their readiness to pursue the program in a way that everyone in their locality will benefit from it.
